Carmelita Evangelista Dumpit

On Tuesday afternoon, February 22, 2022, the world grew quieter as Carmelita Evangelista Dumpit took her final breaths at home, surrounded by the love of her husband Federico, daughter Jane, son-in-law Gary, and grandson Grayson. In her last days, dear friends and colleagues came to offer their goodbyes, a testament to the countless lives she touched with her kindness and wisdom. Carmelita was born on October 5, 1947, in San Antonio, Zambales, Philippines, the eighth of twelve children of the late Cipriano Sr. and Consolacion (Torres) Evangelista. From her earliest years, she carried a gift for numbers and patterns—a talent that led her to become an accomplished accountant and mentor to many. After earning her Bachelor s degree from the University of the East in Manila, she began her career at San Miguel Naval Base before journeying to the United States, where she worked with dedication and quite strength as a Manager at Burger King in Vallejo for nearly three decades. She retired at age 70, leaving behind not only a career but a legacy of perseverance and generosity. Her life was defined not by possessions or accolades, but by the way she gave of herself. Carmelita lived simply, yet her generosity was boundless. She found joy in the small wonders of life—joy rides on backroads, visits with family and friends, the laughter of her grandchildren, and the comfort of sharing a meal. She gave freely, often offering her last penny to ease another’s burden, and asked for so little in return. Her gentle spirit and selfless heart were her greatest gifts to the world. Family was her anchor. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. Her home was a place of warmth, filled with the aroma of her cooking, the beauty of her decorations, and the love she poured into every holiday and gathering. She delighted in gardening, reading mysteries, solving puzzles, and spending time outdoors. In every season of her life, she found ways to nurture, to care, and to love. Carmelita’s journey was preceded by the passing of her parents and siblings Reginaldo Sr., Octavio, Cesar, Bonerjes, Armistes, and Shirley. Though their absence was deeply felt, their memory remained woven into her story, a reminder of the resilience and love that carried her forward. Lovingly known as “Mameng” and “Carmen,” she leaves behind her beloved husband Federico Lazaro; her children Edwin (Sonia) and Jane (Gary); her siblings Socorro Bueno, Lydia Vergoza, Arthur Sr., Ofelia, and Cipriano Jr.; and her cherished grandchildren Dianne Jane (Joven), Eisza Joie, and Grayson James. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family who will forever hold her memory close. Family and friends were invited to honor Carmelita’s life at a visitation on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Twins Chapel Mortuary in Vallejo, California. A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at 1:00 PM at St. Basil the Great Catholic Church, 1200 Tuolumne St, Vallejo, CA. Committal services and burial followed at All Soul’s Cemetery, 550 Glen Cove Rd, Vallejo, CA. A celebration of her life continued at Szechuan Chinese Cuisine, 2079 Solano Ave, Vallejo, CA.
