Christopher "Chris" T. Abundis

It is with deep love and sorrow to announce the passing of Christopher Todd Abundis, a devoted husband to Frida B. Abundis, Father to Daniel R. Abundis, Step Father to Destiny M. Terry, Grandfather to Eli D. Abundis and Step Grandfather to Niam Terry. Chris passed away suddenly at his home in Hercules, California in the presence of his wife, Frida, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. He is now reunited in eternal peace with his father, Daniel E. Abundis. He is survived by his mother, Grace D. Abundis; his brothers, Greg and Steve Abundis; his sister, Cathy, and brother-in-law, Dave Longacre; as well as nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all. Chris was born in Vallejo, California on August 23rd, 1968 to Daniel E. Abundis and Grace D. Abundis in Crockett, California where he was raised. Chris graduated from John Swett High School located in Crockett, California, in 1986. He dedicated his professional life to Engineering, a field he was deeply passionate about. Over the years, he contributed his expertise to Cal-Neva, the City of Concord, and JLL (Jones Lang LaSalle Inc.) In 2022, he became a proud Chief Engineer for Cushman & Wakefield, a role he held until 2026, allowing him to work from a home-based office. He was a respected Chief Engineer, a loyal husband, and a man of strong character, compassion with a deep love for life, people, and good times, above all, he devoted love for the Lord as a true Catholic man. Chris and his wife, Frida met at a Raiders vs. Chiefs game on November 30, 2008, which marked the beginning of an amazing love story. In 2009, he invited her to his “Super Bowl Party,” but it was never meant for others. He set up decorations, food, everything suggesting a night filled with people, but the guests never came, because they were not invited. It was meant to be just for the two of them, and as the evening unfolded, so did his intention, creating a moment that felt special, thoughtful, and entirely hers. That night, it wasn’t about the game, it was the quiet, deliberate way he showed her she was worth planning for. As they continued dating, they took things slow, truly getting to know one another. Soon, every weekend and holiday became something to celebrate. He met her friends from her past jobs, both guys and ladies and before long, they became his friends too. Through those shared friendships and all the time spent together, their connection grew stronger, built on trust and a real sense of togetherness, until they naturally became best friends, themselves. Chris was full of life, love, and kindness. He enjoyed BBQing, sports, dancing, music, concerts, traveling, game nights with friends and maintaining their vehicles where neighbors gravitated to him spending hours with him outside, just talking and catching up. He was a loyal Oakland, later Las Vegas Raiders, the Oakland A’s, the Golden State Warriors, and the WNBA Valkyries fan, with a special admiration for his favorite player, Veronica Burton. He and his wife attended games at Chase Center as season ticket holders, often arriving hours early thanks to their work-from-home schedules, and became well known at Splash Sports Bar in Thrive City, where the bartenders affectionately called them both “mom and dad.” Chris left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate to meet him, his presence was magnetic, his smile was genuine, lighting up every room he walked into, his laugh contagious, his personality unforgettable, and his spirit unshakably strong. He booked and planned their first cruise in 2018 to Mexico and every year afterwards becoming loyal passengers with nine Princess Cruises. Together, they explored Alaska, Hawaii, and Mexico, forming lifelong friendships with people from around the world and becoming adopted by a sweet couple Antoinette & Ernie Martinez from Sacramento, who they met on the Grand Princess and continued life together on cruises, the County Fair, and LIVE music events. They also surprisingly met neighbors in the same city they lived in, grew up in, and throughout the Bay Area becoming their "cruise buddies" by creating future trips and from 2018 to 2025, they all continued to sail. His favorite casino game was Roulette with his dear friend Ron, who also became a lifelong friend spending unforgettable memories with him and his family. Chris enjoyed planning, whether it was special trips to South Lake Tahoe or cruises to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, New Year’s, etc. Over time, Frida picked up that same joy by watching him, and she began planning trips for them to Napa, Mammoth Lakes, Tahoe where they returned to their favorite spots, planned weekends where friends would join them in creating new memories and reconnecting with people who welcomed them back with open arms year after year. After years of dating, being engaged and getting married, they continued to have "date nights" sharing a love for LIVE music, attending Blues, R&B, Old School, and Reggae events, concerts and festivals throughout California. At home, their love showed up in the simple routines they built together. Mornings started with coffee on the couch before logging in at 8:15am, and by 5:30pm they were back together again, enjoying that little window of time before dinner or his gym days with his brother Greg. Evenings meant the news with David Muir, Inside Edition, and their favorite shows, followed by dinner and their usual snacks he kept on his side of the couch with Skinny Pop popcorn, pistachios, or sunflower seeds and every night ended the same way: “Cuddle Time” which was between 9pm and 12am, falling asleep in each other’s arms was something they never missed unless he was out of town overnight for work, which was minimal. They balanced each other perfectly, sharing the same passions, values, and the little things that brought them joy. Side by side, they moved through life with gratitude and genuine happiness, creating a life that felt truly their own surrounded by their small circle of love with true friends and family. Though his presence will be profoundly missed, the impact of his life will continue to resonate for generations through the legacy he leaves behind. Chris’ story does not end here; it lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to be part of his journey. The void left by his passing will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his widow, Frida, his stepdaughter Destiny, her husband, Andrew along with his extended family who cherished his presence at every gathering. Chris will be remembered for his confidence, his genuine nature, and the respect he showed to everyone he encountered. When asked how he was doing, he would smile and say, “Living my best life” his phrase that perfectly reflected his outlook on life. Chris’ legacy is one of love and generosity. Those who knew him were touched by his passion for life, his willingness to help others, and his ability to find beauty in every moment, especially at sea. His memory will forever be cherished by the many lives he touched. Chris gave and shared wonderful years filled with love, support, and kindness. He built a life rooted in shared dreams, simple joys, and meaningful moments, from road trips and music to the everyday acts of care that showed just how deeply he loved. His patience, respect, and devotion reflected a kind of love grounded in trust, loyalty, and genuine connection. He created a life rich with laughter, memories, and thoughtful gestures that will never be forgotten. Chris will be dearly missed and forever loved, remembered always for the way he believed in others, the love he gave so freely, and the lasting impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to truly know him. Below are a couple of letters the family received and would like to share: ___________ Working alongside Chris was one of the great privileges of my career. I first met Chris long before we ever worked directly together, and even then, his reputation as a dedicated, passionate chief engineer was already well‑known. In 2021, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Chris more closely, and that’s when I truly got to know the person behind the title. Chris had a way of making every interaction meaningful. Whether we were discussing work, sharing ideas, or joking around about our football teams he always brought humor, laughs, and genuine connection into the room. He loved talking about his wife Frida and how they met, and the life they built together. His pride in his marriage was unmistakable, and his joy when speaking about her was contagious. Whenever I traveled to Northern California, Chris made it a point to set aside time for us to grab lunch, dinner catch up and talk about the things that mattered most...our families, our teams, and our next vacations. He would light up talking about cruises, and I’d tell him about Cancun. We always said that one day we’d meet up either on a ship or on the white sands of Mexico. I’ll always hold onto that thought. Chris loved his Raiders and loved life. His passion showed in everything he did. He was not only a respected leader, but a good friend, and I will always be grateful for the years we shared. He loved the relaxation and freedom of cruising. He loved that when he cruised, someone else was there to pick up the dirty towels he had left on the floor in cabin, other than his wife Frida. Also to make the bed and have three free meals a day. Then he would hang out either in the casino or with one of his favorite ship bartenders. When we weren’t on the same cruise, we’d share photos on WhatsApp with each other. Now Chris, on my next cruise, and every cruise thereafter, when I look out and see a white cap wave spreading out from the ship’s bow, it will remind me of that big bright smile you have and the laughs we have shared, who you now share with God. I will still send you photos on WhatsApp so we can share that love for cruising together, knowing you’ll see them in heaven. I miss you dearly, my friend, very much.
