Elias Jojola Jr.

Elias Jojola Jr., lovingly known as Joe or simply Jr., peacefully passed away on March 10, 2026, at the age of 88. His warm laughter had a magical ability to brighten any room, and his life overflowed with love, adventure, and an unwavering devotion to his family. Born on June 6, 1937, in the heart of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Elias was the cherished son of Elias Jojola Sr. and Concepción Villalba Jojola. He spent his early years immersed in the Tiwa tribe culture before moving to California at the tender age of five. Elias was a proud tribal member and descendant of the Piro/Manso/Tiwa Indian Tribe. This nurturing upbringing instilled in him the warmth, humor, and resilience that would define his life. From a young age, Elias radiated a captivating spirit that drew others to him—a delightful mix of natural charm and playful silliness that remained vibrant throughout his life. In his youth, Elias proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, embarking on a journey that would take him far beyond his childhood roots and broaden his horizons. After an honorable retirement from the Air Force, he embraced a fulfilling second career at the University of California, Berkeley, dedicating three decades to service. His two successful careers were filled with countless stories and laughter that entertained his grandchildren for hours on end. Then there was Estela—the love of his life and partner in all things—his beloved wife of an incredible 64 years. Together, they crafted a beautiful life filled with extraordinary experiences. They traveled the world gathering cherished adventures and memories along the way. Whether exploring new cities or dancing at family gatherings, their bond was palpable, radiating warmth to all who were fortunate enough to witness it. A gifted dancer, Elias moved across the dance floor with a joy and rhythm that left everyone enchanted. Above all, Elias's heart overflowed with love for his family. He held a special place in his heart for all children—not just his own—showering affection on his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family alike. His inclusive warmth enveloped everyone, making them feel cherished and welcome. Known for his legendary sense of humor, he reveled in playful banter, bringing smiles and laughter wherever he went; his farewells were always filled with joy. Sports were a beloved part of Elias's life; he passionately enjoyed baseball, football, and especially boxing, sharing this enthusiasm with friends and family. Whether engaging in spirited debates about sports figures or cheering from the sidelines as an enthusiastic coach or fan, his excitement was contagious. He lovingly gave back to his community by volunteering with Little League Baseball in his younger days, nurturing young athletes, and sharing the joy of the sport he adored. Elias also possessed a remarkable artistic talent; those fortunate enough to experience his creations recognized them as reflections of the depth and beauty within him. Music was a constant companion throughout his life, filling their home and energizing those unforgettable dance moments. For two decades, Elias proudly served as a member of the Knights of Columbus, dedicating himself to community needs and parish activities with unwavering commitment. His faith, deeply rooted in his Catholic beliefs, provided a guiding light through life's challenges, instilling a profound gratitude for the countless blessings he received. The family finds comfort in knowing that Elias now rests peacefully with God, reunited with loved ones who preceded him. Elias is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Carlos Jojola; his brother, Ralph Arambula; and his sisters, Josephine Marquez, Paulita Russel, Marylou Cordova, and Frances Banducci. He is lovingly survived by his dear wife Estela Jojola; son Felipe Jojola; daughters Bernice Jojola-Webb and Elaine Jojola; brother Johnny Jojola; twelve cherished grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren, along with an incredible number of nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored immeasurably. Elias—your legacy is rich with love, laughter, and joy, leaving this world a little quieter without you. Yet, we can almost hear your playful words echoing: "See you later, alligator! In a while, crocodile! What do you mean, jellybean? You heard what I said, pumpkin head!" Until we reunite again, know that we love you dearly!
