Gemeliano T. Orias

Gemeliano "Jimmy" Orias was born on February 15, 1941, in Anda, Bohol, Philippines to Sotero Orias and Carlosa Tinio. Jimmy received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education at Rafael Palma College, Bohol, Philippines. He worked as an Elementary School Teacher and Security Guard before immigrating to Oakland, California with his mother in 1972. He worked as a custodian at School for the Deaf and the Blind in Berkeley and State of California Department of Health Services in Berkeley as a warehouseman and purchasing. In 1988, he moved to Vallejo, California and continued to work in Berkeley until he retired in 2003. After Jimmy retired, he focused more on his bountiful garden and plants. He loved his garden. He grew a wide variety of fruit trees and vegetables such as persimmons, cherries, apple pears and Opo, an asian summer squash. He also had a wide collection of cymbidiums. His passion for gambling was great but he knew his limits. He did it for the challenge, the fun and self-satisfaction. He loved to play Rummy with friends at Bohol Circle, Inc. in Alameda, California. He also enjoyed playing mahjong with friends at paluwagan, going to the racetrack and casinos. He loved going on cruises because casinos were just steps away and the food was abundant and free. He enjoyed traveling and driving long distances such as going to San Diego and Las Vegas while listening to his favorite music of Eddie Peregrina, Victor Wood, and Yoyoy Villame. Jimmy lived a life full of love, laughter, and joy. He touched the lives of so many with his compassion, kindness, wit, and sense of humor. He was a loving husband, Daddy, Papa, Uncle, PapaLo, Tito, and Manong. He was the epitome of love, grace, and strength. He was devoted to his family and friends. He loved his grandchildren so much. He is well remembered for his generosity and the love to help people, especially his relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; Sotero Orias and Carlosa Tinio, all of his siblings; Dionesia Gonzaga, Democrita Orias, Salustiana Felicitas, Michaela Orias, Crescencia Falliero, Rosario Orias, Manuel Orias, and a nephew; Danilo Orias. Our beloved Gemeliano "Jimmy" Orias returned to the Lord at the age of 82 on January 18, 2024 at home peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ricarda, his sons Geric Joseph (Rhoda Guiang) and Paul Giovanni (April Mocam) and only daughter Crystal Marie (Jostin Llanos); grandchildren, Andrew, Anthony, Annalyn, Angelo, Hailey and Emeri; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces and great grandkids. Although we mourn the loss of our beloved Jimmy, we take comfort in knowing that he is watching over us and the memories and the impact he made on our lives will be cherished forever.
