Genevieve Briseno

Genevieve Briseño passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, at the age of 91, surrounded by the love of her family after a brief illness. Known affectionately as Genny or Gene, she lived a life defined by devotion—to her family, her faith, her work, and her community. Born on June 10, 1934, in Southern California, Genevieve met the love of her life, Ramon, while they were both in high school. She often said she fell for him instantly—and that love never wavered. They married on November 8, 1953, beginning a partnership that spanned decades and had countless cherished memories. In 1955, after Ramon’s discharge from the Navy, they settled in Vallejo, a city Genevieve came to love deeply. A devoted parishioner of St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, Genevieve’s faith was the quiet foundation of her life. Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She found happiness in life’s simple, beautiful moments—gathering around the table with family, tending her garden, lending a helping hand, or offering a listening ear. Her warmth and generosity made everyone feel welcome and cared for. When her children were young, Genevieve gave her time generously to school activities, scouting, and countless community efforts. Determined to do more, she returned to school to pursue a nursing career after five of her children were already in school. While completing her degree, she discovered she was expecting her sixth child—yet she pressed on, graduating with grace and determination. This chapter reflected the strength and perseverance that defined her life. Genevieve spent her entire nursing career with Kaiser, a profession she embraced with pride and compassion. The only time she stepped away was to accompany Ramon to Spain for a four-year work assignment. During those years abroad, she traveled extensively throughout Europe, developing a lifelong love for Spain, Italy, and the rich cultures she experienced. Upon returning home, she resumed her nursing career at Kaiser until her retirement. Retirement did not slow her down. Genevieve continued to give back as a dedicated volunteer at Kaiser and the Vallejo Senior Center, serving others with humility and grace well into her later years. Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband, Ramon Briseno, her parents, Francisco Cruz and Francisca Garcia; her brothers, Henry and Victor; and her sister, Mary Ortiz. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving family: brothers Robert (Amelia) and Frank, and sister Estella; her children Barbara Briseño-Childress, Larry (Clara) Briseño, Karen (Ken) Paulk, Deanna (John) Troupe, Greg (JoAnn) Briseño, and Robert (Regina) Briseño; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. A Rosary and Vigil Service will be held on Thursday, January 15, at Twin Chapels Mortuary, 1100 Tennessee Street, Vallejo, CA, with visitation beginning at 4:00 p.m. and the Rosary at 5:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, January 16, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 925 Sacramento Street, Vallejo, CA. A celebration of life reception will follow immediately after the Mass. Burial will be private and held at a later date at Sacramento County Veterans Cemetery in Dixon, California.
