John Burton "Jack" or "Jumbo" Anthony III

John Burton Anthony III, affectionately known to family, friends, and colleagues as "Jack"—and to many simply as "Jumbo"—passed away peacefully at his home in Fairfield, California, on July 27, 2026, at the age of 75, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Surrounded by the love of his family, Jack left this world with the same strength, dignity, and grace that defined his life. Born on July 9, 1951, in Vallejo, California, Jack was raised in the community he proudly called home. He was the beloved son of Margaret Anthony, who survives him at 98 years old, and the late John Anthony Jr. From an early age, he embodied the values of integrity, hard work, and perseverance that would shape both his personal and professional life. Jack attended California State University, Chico, and proudly served in the military reserves, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to service and responsibility. Jack was a visionary entrepreneur and respected leader in the car wash industry. As Chief Executive Officer of 7 Flags Car Wash, he transformed a small family business of four self-service car washes into one of Northern California's premier car wash companies. Under his leadership, the company expanded to seven self-service locations, five express car washes, two full-service car washes, and one express oil change center. His vision, relentless work ethic, and commitment to excellence created opportunities for countless employees and built a legacy that will continue for generations. His leadership extended far beyond his own company. Jack proudly served as President of the International Carwash Association, earning the respect of industry leaders across the country. He was passionate about advancing the profession, mentoring fellow operators, and helping shape the future of the industry. He believed there was always room to improve, always someone to encourage, and always another opportunity to help others succeed. While Jack's professional accomplishments were extraordinary, his greatest joy was always his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Cathleen Anthony; his two sons, Jason Anthony and Kyle Anthony; his daughter-in-law, Natashia Anthony; his cherished grandchildren, Jackson Anthony and Emilia Anthony; his mother, Margaret Anthony; his brother, Mark Anthony; and his sister, Susan Anthony. His family was the center of his world, and every decision he made was rooted in creating a better future for those he loved. To those who knew him best, he was simply "Jumbo"—an affectionate nickname that was wonderfully ironic. Jack was never a big man in stature, but his personality certainly was. His infectious laugh, magnetic presence, and larger-than-life spirit made the nickname a perfect fit. He had an extraordinary ability to make every person feel important. Whether meeting someone for the first time or reconnecting with a lifelong friend, Jack took the time to listen, ask thoughtful questions, and genuinely get to know people. He had a rare gift for making others feel seen, heard, and valued. Jack loved golf, sharing a great bottle of wine with family and friends, traveling to new places, and, of course, talking about and improving the car wash business he loved. Yet above all of those passions, nothing meant more to him than his family. He treasured every gathering, every holiday, every golf trip with friends, and every moment spent with his grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy. Although he was admired as a leader, those closest to Jack will remember the fun side of "Jumbo" just as much. He loved to laugh, loved making others laugh, and had an uncanny ability to turn ordinary moments into unforgettable memories. His stories, quick wit, and sense of humor will live on through the countless conversations that begin with, "Remember when Jack..." Those stories will continue to bring smiles, laughter, and comfort for generations to come. Jack's life was one of purpose, leadership, kindness, and love. His greatest legacy is not measured by the business he built or the titles he held, but by the lives he touched. He showed that success is found in treating people with respect, leading with integrity, giving generously of your time, and loving your family without reservation. Though our hearts are broken by his passing, we are profoundly grateful for the 75 years we were blessed to share with him. His example will continue to guide us, his laughter will continue to echo in our memories, and his love will remain forever woven into the fabric of our family.
