Peggy Jane Meeker

PEGGY JANE MEEKER Peggy Jane Meeker passed away Nov, 26th following a short illness. She was born Oct, 22, 1923 in St. Louis, Missouri to Velma Gorst Welch & Charles Welch. She grew up in Tulsa Oklahoma with her mom and sister Mary. As a young women she was sent to Guam via Travis Air Force Base along with many women supporting the War Efforts. She wrote home to her family of the beautiful West Coast around San Francisco that she experienced on her way through. The family relocated in Vallejo in late 40's-51. Peggy moved to Fairfield while working at Travis AFB, David Grant Hospital where she met her longtime friend Martha Lester. They both worked for the Chief, Medical Admin Services and Peggy's career followed this path until her retirement. She obtained her Professional License and Membership as a Registered Health Information Administrator in the National, State and East Bay Associations. She acquired a part time teaching credential and taught Medical Terminology at Solano and Napa Community Colleges. She worked at Napa State Hospital for 11 years before excepting a position at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. During her 5 years in Arabia she was able to travel the world... Africa, Europe, Far East and Australia. On her return she worked at Broadway Hospital in Vallejo. She then accepted a position at the California Veterans Home in Yountville until she retired at the age of 74. She lived out the rest of her live at her home in Vallejo with her family around her. She still had the travel bug and loved to go camping and to her casinos. Peggy is pre deceased by her sister, Mary Welch Townsend, her daughter Celia Meeker & Son Warren Meeker, Grandson, Zach Zachry and nephews, John and Charles Howe all of Vallejo. Surviving her are her grandson Paul Zachry and nieces and nephews Jane Townsend Lester of Clipper Mills, Ca, Frank Townsend Vjo, Carol Townsend, Rogue River, OR, Barbara Clarkson Townsend, Santa Cruz, Robert Townsend, Vjo and Donald Townsend Vjo, Marylynn Howe Till of Oak Harbor Washington, Tom Howe of Vjo, Nick Howe of Lynnhurst, Ca.
