Sally Jane Stone November 7th, 1962 – August 14th, 2018 Sally Jane Stone passed away at home on August 14th at the age of 55 following a three-year battle with cancer. She fought courageously, without complaint, never losing her faith or her positive outlook on life. Throughout her battle she continued to put others before herself and always had a caring smile on her face. Sally was born on November 7th, 1962 at Vallejo General Hospital. She attended Highland and St. Dominic’s elementary schools, followed by Vallejo High School where she graduated 3rd in her class in 1980. After graduating high school, she continued her education graduating from Solano College Nursing School at the top of her class. After working numerous years helping others as a registered nurse, Sally returned to UC Davis to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. Upon graduating she took a position as an elementary school teacher at St. Basil’s School, where she taught for 19 years until she became ill. Sally is survived by her children, Samantha (Dylan) Mollenhauer, Michael, John and Ella; her grandchildren, Dean Stone, Eli and Quinn Mollenhauer; husband, Greg Stone; mother, Patricia Hasset; siblings, Anne Smoot and Billy Steinback; numerous nephews and niece; and her constant, protective fur companion, Wendy. Sally was predeceased by her father; William J. Steinback; grandparents, Ino Raahauge and Frank Higgins, William S. Steinback, Tommy and Rose Joyce. As a young woman, Sally enjoyed backpacking with her family, being in nature, singing in the St. Basil’s choir, dancing, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and spending time with her family. She enjoyed attending the ballet with her daughters during Christmas time to see the Nutcracker and taking her sons to musicals and plays. She was always a creative and artistic woman, which she passed on to all her children. She enjoyed traveling and spent a year living in Germany with her mother, Pat, and brother, Billy, when she was 19. Last year, Sally was blessed to travel back to Europe with her daughter, Ella, to Lourdes and visit her lifelong best friend, Rosanna Sanchez, in Italy. Every year, Sally and her family would spend a week in Lake Tahoe and she always looked forward to their annual stroll to the Stream Profile at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center. Sally shared her love of nature with her children, visiting many state parks to view every possible kind of tree in California, while pausing to read every informational sign in each park. Sally will be remembered for her love of her children, her students, teaching, nursing, and her faith. She was a kind, caring, patient woman who will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. Sally’s family extends their heartfelt appreciation and deepest gratitude to her son, Michael, and nephew, Patrick Kavanagh, for their selfless devotion while caring for her during her prolonged illness. Sally and Michael shared an unbreakable bond that nourished her spirit giving her the strength to fight her courageous battle. Additionally, despite being only 11 years old, Sally’s daughter, Ella, provided her with much needed emotional support, laughter, and love during her illness. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 23 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, followed by a vigil at 7:00 pm at Twin Chapels Mortuary, 1100 Tennessee Street, Vallejo. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 24 at 10:00 am at St. Basil’s Catholic Church, 1200 Tuolumne Street, Vallejo.
