Thomas Tan

Thomas Tan was born December 24th, 1960 in Manila, Philippines. He was born as the youngest of three children to his father, Antonio Tan, and mother, Siu Huen Tan. His older brother is John Tan, and older sister, Shirley Tan. He grew up with them, and eventually pursued Electronics Engineering at the University of Santo Tomas. He then immigrated to the United States, and stayed with his Father in Chicago, Illinois. There, he completed his B.S. in Electronics Engineering at DeVry University. Afterwards, he was offered a job at a startup company in the Silicon Valley. He met one of his best friends, Danny Balani at University, and encouraged him to come to California with him. Danny and his wife, Teresa, would be the reason for meeting his now wife, Corazon Espinosa-Tan. The two were married July 23, 1988, at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, in Benicia, CA. For the first several years of their marriage, they enjoyed their time together and traveled all over, including to Japan, Israel, Singapore, the Philippines, China, just to name a few. Eventually, they decided to settle down in San Ramon, CA, and had their only child/daughter, Isabel Naomi Espinosa Tan. Thomas continued to work as a Hardware Engineer and support his family. He even helped Corazon petition her family to immigrate to the States and help them get their footing here. Thomas would continue to travel with his family, his favorite destinations especially were the Philippines and Hawaii. He was proud of his heritage, the language, the food, the culture, and the people. He loved island culture and music, he had several albums of Hawaiian music and Filipino classics. He loved the Warriors, eating (and watching food vlogger Mark Weins), playing golf and bowling, and solving puzzles. He was an intelligent man, speaking 4 languages (Tagalog, Mandarin, Fukienese, English), and enjoyed anything that gave him a challenge. Thomas eventually converted to the Roman Catholic faith and was baptized and confirmed in July 2018. He also joined the Knights of Columbus with his Parish, St. Joan of Arc, in San Ramon. He was a charitable man and donated to their causes and fundraisers. Thomas passed on March 23, 2026, and is survived by his wife, daughter, mother, sister, brother, and dog, Mocha. His viewing will be on Thursday, April 9th, 2026, at Twin Chapels Mortuary (1100 Tennessee St, Vallejo, CA), from 4 PM to 8 PM, with a Vigil at 5 PM. His Funeral Mass will be on Friday, April 10th, 2026, at St. Dominic’s Church (475 E I St, Benicia, CA) at 11 AM. Following this, his burial will be at All Souls Cemetery (550 Glen Cove Rd, Vallejo, CA), at 12:30 PM, with a reception at St. Dominic’s Church Parish Hall. May God Bless his soul, and may he be remembered for his kind, gentle spirit.
