Vickie Lynn Slack

On December 18, 2024, our sweet darling sister Vickie Lynn Slack peacefully left to be with the Lord. Vickie was born in Monroe, Louisiana, on March 27, 1963, to the late Reverend Rufus Slack Sr. and the late Minnie Starr-Slack. Vickie is preceded in death by her brothers Ardell Slack, Jerry Louis Slack, Tyrone Power Slack, Reverend Dr. Rufus Slack Jr., Dan Otis Slack, and brothers-in-law Roosevelt McFarland and George Spears. Vickie attended elementary school at Franklin Parish Training School and, after integration, Baskin High School in Baskin, Louisiana. She moved with her family to Richwood, Louisiana, a suburb of Monroe, Louisiana. In Monroe, Vickie attended Robinson Elementary School and Richwood High School. In 1980, Vickie moved with her family to Vallejo, California. She completed her senior year of high school at Hogan High School in Vallejo. Vickie attended college and graduated from Sacramento State University. During her undergraduate college years, she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and remained an active member of Delta sorority until her death. While working full-time, Vickie completed her master’s degree in public health at Golden Gate University in San Francisco, California. During her professional career, Vickie was employed by the Departments of Public Health in San Mateo and Solano Counties and by The State of California. Later in her career, she was employed with the California Employment Development Department and California Department of Industrial Relations as an analyst. Vickie was baptized at an early age while attending Baskin Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Baskin, Louisiana. She became a member of the Pleasant Green Baptist Church in Richwood, Louisiana. After moving to Vallejo, California, she joined the Friendship Baptist Missionary Church where she was an active choir member. Later in life, Vickie became a devoted born-again Christian. Her love for the Lord echoed in her soul. Vickie loved talking about the Lord and shared her spiritual wisdom with all those who would listen. Vickie was a very talented singer who was a member of the Richwood High School choir under the direction of the late Mr. Roosevelt Pine. She received several awards for her singing performances and was a member of many church choirs in the Bay Area. Vickie had a rich and impactful life, filled with education, devotion, and service. She touched many lives through her work, her spiritual commitment, and her musical talents. Her family and community, in the Bay Area and her hometown, will remember Vickie with great love and admiration. Her life is a beautiful testament to her strength, faith, and the enduring relationships she cultivated throughout her life. Vickie is survived by her siblings: four sisters, Daisy Bell McFarland of Winnsboro, Louisiana, Varios Spears of Bakersfield, California, Hatress Virginia Harrison and husband Willie Harrison of Vallejo, California, and Robin Denise Slack Crittenden and husband Harry Crittenden of Suisun City, California; one brother, Timothy Rochell Slack and wife Dietra Slack of Castro Valley, California; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
