Asuncion Anteola Dumlao

May 8, 1922 - November 25, 2018

Asuncion A. Dumlao, known by many people as “Cion”, age 96, died in a local hospital in Vallejo on November 25, 2018 after a brief illness. She was a native of Claveria, Cagayan, Philippines. As a young adult she attended Ilocos Norte Fashion Academy in the Philippines. She moved to Madison Wisconsin in the 1950's where she worked and earned her Master’s Degree in Home Economics at the University of Wisconsin. She eventually moved to California where she married her husband Miguel Dumlao and had two sons. They lived in Pittsburg CA. for several years before moving to Vallejo in 1970 where she has been a homemaker since. She was an avid gardener growing the common vegetables you would find in a typical Filipino garden. Additionally she enjoyed growing many types of flowers, but her passion has always been growing roses and orchids. She was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church of Vallejo for almost 20 years before her and her husband eventually moved to another local church. She was very active in her church teaching Sunday school, working with the music ministries, servicing and caring for the elderly and many other activities and ministries in her church. She loved music and loved to sing, many times singing duets with her husband in church. She loved to cook and was fond of making so many Filipino delicacies. She was an extremely good cook and was always asked to cook for local Filipino community events and social events at her church. However, it was her reputation of making the best lumpia that she was well known for. Besides making the best lumpia around, she was always trying to expand her repertoire by making new desserts and treats. Mrs. Dumlao is survived by her son, Vic Dumlao of Vallejo, three grandsons, David Dumlao of Erial NJ, Daniel Dumlao of San Francisco, and Devin Dumlao of San Jose, and her sister, Francisca De Los Reyes of Milpitas CA. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews, and a multitude of great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and her first son. Viewing will take place at Twin Chapels Mortuary in Vallejo CA on Monday, December 3, 2018. Funeral services will be held at the same mortuary at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 4. Burial will be at the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno CA on Wednesday, December 5. There will be a brief committal service at 11:00 PM at the chapel at Golden Gate National Cemetery.
