Carl C. Whitcomb

An extraordinary man, an everyday American. To his family, a hero. Provider and protector: to his six children, a teacher and leader; to his wife of 54 years, a stalwart companion and supporter. Carl was a veteran of WWII in Europe. After college on the GI Bill, he soon started his 35 year career with PG&E as an electrical engineer. Carl lived a ful and cherised 87 years. Carl and Sharlot raised six children, have 19 grandchildren, 13 great-granchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Carl passed away comfortably at home, surrounded by his family. Survivors of this wonderful man are many: his wife, Sharlot A. Whitcomb of Vallejo, and children; Bruce G. Whitcomb (Debbie) of Vacaville, C. Brad Whitcomb (Joy) of Walnut Creek, Cassandra C. Whitcomb of Berkeley, Dru M. Herren of Vallejo, Suanne S. Dunn (Dennis) of Napa, and Brett M. Whitcomb (Donna) of American Canyon. Everyone remembers Carl's joyful tears as he spoke of his love for Sharlot at their 50th Wed-ding Anniversary celebration at Elks Lodge, 14 years ago. An avid Giant fan, Carl listened to all the games on the radio, back in the day. This past month, he enjoyed their winning streak. While his children were growing up, Carl took his family on camping trips all over California and beyond. As a Boy Scout Leader, he did it the old school way, helping his sons and the other scouts earn their badges, building kayaks for river and lake excursions, and attending the Boy Scout Jamboree at Camp Philmont in New Mexico - taking along the whole family of a two week exploration of the Western States. Carl's children grew up knowing his uncles, aunts and cousins in Ukiah and Willits, and enjoyed great clan gatherings on the coast at Fort Bragg. During his retirement, Carl and Sharlot explored the U.S.A. in their RVs, creating lasting memories with Reddy Rover PG&E friends. They made new friends from around the world during trips to China, Russia, and several trips to Europe. They enjoyed several cruises - great numbers of family members joined them on their cruises to Mexico and to Alaska in recent years. Services will be private.
