Ernest “Ernie” Francis Heater, 85, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2013 at home in Vallejo after a brief illness. Ernie was born to Larry and Zeta (McDermott) Heater on February 21, 1928 in San Francisco. Ernie worked as a Mechanical Engineering Technician at Mare Island Naval Shipyard for thirty-seven years. He graduated from St. Vincent’s High School in 1947 and served in the U.S. Army. Ernie enjoyed traveling, watching 49ers games (he was a season ticket holder for many years), and helping friends and family with home improvement projects. Ernie is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 46 years, Barbara Ann Heater; his sister, Bernice Lovie; his brother George Ihorn; sister-in-law Barbara Wills; and nephews George Ihorn, Jr., and John Ihorn. Survivors include his cousin, Dan Heater; nephews, Bob (Rose) Lovie, Al Lovie, Dennis Lovie, Gordon Lovie, and John Mallory; nieces, Laurie Baldwin, Penny Ritchie, Julie Blood, Kathi (Chuck) Almeida, and Dr. Sherry Mallory; sister-in-law, Carol Blood; grand-nephew, Ron Almeida; grand-niece Rachael Almeida; family friend and caregiver to both Barbara and Ernie, Rhonda Thompson; and many very special friends whom Ernie considered family. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 9th from 4-9pm at Twin Chapels Mortuary, 1100 Tennessee St., Vallejo, with a Rosary at 7pm. Funeral Mass will be at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church on Friday, May 10th at 11am. Burial will be at All Souls Catholic Cemetery immediately following the Mass.
