Jerry G. Vanecek

Jerry passed away peacefully on October 25, 2014 after a long illness at his home in Largo, Florida. Jerry was born on the Island of Saipan, where his father was stationed in the U.S. Navy. Jerry also served in the Navy and retired after 25 years. He attended Vallejo Schools before joining the Navy, and was active in Vallejo Little League. Jerry was predeceased by his father Gilbert Vanecek, mother Helen, step-mother Janet Vanecek, and sister Marion DeStefano. Survivors include his wife Kris (Kristine Ophaug); his sons, Robert and James (Angela); grandchildren, Kyra, Jaden and Walker; and sisters Jean (DeWayne) Miller, Sandra (Alfred "Ed") Cimino-Cruz, and Vicky Scopesi; Numerous nephews and a niece, great-nieces and great-nephews. Memorial service will be held in St. Petersburg, Florida on November 14, 2014 and his ashes scattered at sea, under the direction of the U.S. Navy. Contributions may be made to P.E.O.
