Kent Cyril Peterman
October 31, 1943 - March 19, 2022
Kent Cyril Peterman was born on Halloween 1943 in Palo Alto California. Kent grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. He was very proud of the fact that he was a third generation native Northern Californian. He had a wonderful and wild time growing up with his mother who was like Auntie Mame and therefore his life was continually filled with excitement and adventures. He attended California Concordia College in Oakland, California for four years of high school and two years of college and graduated from California State College at Hayward in 1965. He began work at an early age as a child model. He continued to work even in his retirement. Kent taught for over forty years the majority of the time in Lafayette School District where he taught primary and the last five years as a district technology teacher. Teaching was his passion. He also taught for the University of California Davis and the University of California Berkeley. Additionally, he led in-services in counties and school districts throughout Northern California. He was involved in CTA serving as vice-president of his teachers’ association. He was honored with the California Teachers’ Association WHO (We Honor Ours) award. While teaching he was an advocate for students and fellow teachers. He continued to mentor and guide new teachers in his role as A Supervisor of Student Teachers St. Mary's College of California in Moraga after his retirement in Lafayette. Kent was also involved in the City of Vallejo, as chair of the Planning Commission, vice president and secretary of the Governing Board at Mare Island Technology Academy. He was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. Vincent Ferrer, chair of the board of Fighting Back Partnership, chair of the City of Vallejo Beautification Commission, member of the Diversity Resource Council of the California Maritime Academy, community member and chair of the City of Vallejo Mobile Home Rent Review Board, and secretary of the McCune Foundation. Kent had a lifelong fascination with ships and loved to cruise. In 1995 he married Brooksie who shared this passion and they enjoyed many cruises together. In fact they enjoyed life together and just being together was their special joy. Together they hunted antique shops, and flea markets, and garage sales and eBay to make their home a unique show place. They loved their home and enjoyed their nightly talk time while they looked out on their beautiful view of the bay. Kent had a quick wit and enjoyed being around bright funny people. He also had a great intellect and loved to discuss and debate with others. He is survived by his wife Brooksie Peterman, by his godsons and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Kent cared deeply about people. Kent will be remembered for his caring, compassionate ways. He will be missed by all who knew him.
