He fought bravely without complaint, never losing his positive outlook. Lorrie was born in Susanville, CA at the Potter Maternity Home. He attended elementary school and graduated from Lassen Union High School in 1955. For a short time after graduation, Lorrie attended junior college. In 1957, Lorrie and his high school sweetheart, Sandra Aguzzi, were married and relocated to Vallejo, CA. They had two children, son Greg and daughter Shellyne. Lorrie is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sandra; son, Greg (Sally); daughter, Shellyne Darst(Mary); grandchildren, Samantha (Dylan) Mollenhauer, Nicholas Darst (Devynne), Michael, John and Ella Stone; great-grandchildren, Dean Stone and Eli Mollenhauer. Lorrie was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Ella; in-laws Arthur and Bernice Aguzzi; and son-in-law, Kevin Darst. Lorrie was employed as a Heavy Equipment Operator by Syar Industries, Inc., for 10 years at which time he was accepted to the California Highway Patrol Academy. Graduating at the top of his class afforded him the assignment of his choice to the Oakland/San Francisco area. After serving for one year, Lorrie considered returning to his previous job with Syar Industries. When Lorrie met with Mr. Syar to ask if he may return, Mr. Syar quickly replied, “How about tomorrow morning?” Lorrie continued employment with Syar Industries for a total of 42 years until his retirement in 1998. Lorrie worked throughout the Bay Area and was extremely proud of his contributions to the ever-growing infrastructure and often reminded his family that, “I built that.” Lorrie was a member of Operating Engineers Local #3 Union for 51 years. As a younger man, Lorrie enjoyed fishing, hunting, dirt biking, and enjoying a cold Coors with friends. He was a lifetime member of the Vallejo Elks Lodge #559 and was a lifelong Oakland Raiders fan. In his later years, Lorrie and Sandra enjoyed camping. RV-ing was a family activity they enjoyed for over 20 years with their children and grandchildren, until his illness. Lorrie and Sandra enjoyed attending the many sporting events in which their children and grandchildren participated over the years, and were avid fans known as Mr. and Mrs. Green and Gold of St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School. Lorrie was an avid reader and was never without a book nearby, which contributed to his vast knowledge of trivia and his significant Jeopardy skills. Lorrie will be remembered for his love of family, his quiet manner, his loyalty, his unending willingness to help a friend, his wit and sense of humor, his sparkling blue eyes and silver hair. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. The family extends their heartfelt thank you and appreciation to Lorrie’s primary caregiver and friend, Martin Santos; ABBA In-Home Care Services staff – Ian, Ryan, Heaven and Melissa; and the Sutter Solano Hospital and Hospice staff.
