Sang Kap (nee-Kim) 1936-2022 On February 20, 2022, Sang Kap (Nee-KIM), 85, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones. Kim was born April 8, 1936 in the Eoeun-ri village, Jangan-myeon 장안면 township, Suwŏn-Kun city, Kyŏnggi (Gyeonggi)-do 경기도 province, in South Korea to Gap-deuk Lee and Sang-ryeol Kim. Kim was the fourth eldest child out of 5 sons and 2 daughters. She was lovely, charming, kind and independent. She met and fell in love with her husband while working as a U.S. Army Nurse in Incheon, South Korea. This love would take her away from her Korean family to the United States, where she became a U.S. citizen in 1968. She lived in Korea, Taiwan, California, Hawaii, Washington and Alaska. Kim took American cooking classes in Korea. She attended Olympic College for a short time, in Bremerton, Washington. She bowled with her Vallejo SIRs team for 30 years. She and her husband made frequent trips to Reno for bowling tournaments and to play the penny slots. She loved to go to the local casino on Mondays. She enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting, sewing and especially her weekly shopping trips. She was a fantastic cook. Some of her happiest days were spent with her two sons and grandchildren. Kim is survived by her sons Paulus (Susan) and John (Julie); grandchildren Jamie (Daniel), Scott, and Phoebe and great grandchildren Kiley and Logan; second eldest brother Kim Yeon-taek, sister Kim Yeon-sun, and younger brother Kim Yeon-saeng of South Korea, a large extended family in Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews. Kim was preceded in death by her husband LeRoy of 60 years, brothers Kim Yeon-gyu, Kim Yeon-hui, and Kim Young-kwang; her mother Gap-deuk Lee and father Sang-ryeol Kim of South Korea. Funeral service will be held at 2 pm on March 10, 2022, at the Twin Chapels Mortuary, www.twinchapelsmortuary.com, 1100 Tennessee St., Vallejo, CA. Private burial will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixen, CA where she will be interred with her late husband LeRoy Lawrence Smith.
