URSULA KENDALL, 89 Ursula Gertrud Kendall, 89, of St. Helena, California, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2014. Born October 8, 1925, in Kolberg, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Gustav and Martha Fischer. Ursula was a governess in Germany during World War II. She was charged with protecting misplaced children in war zones and then reuniting the children with their families after the war ended. She met and married Emory Kendall who was serving with the U.S. Air Force in Germany. They had two children, Ronald and Brian. The family lived in many areas of the world prior to Emory’s retirement from the USAF in 1968. Emory and Ursula settled in St. Helena in 1994 and enjoyed living close to Emory’s birthplace in Yountville. Ursula is survived by her husband of 63 years, Emory Devear Kendall; two sons, Ron Kendall (Susan) of Sacramento, CA, and Brian Kendall (Janet) of Benicia, CA; a sister, Alice Fischer of Paradise, CA; four granddaughters, Jennifer, Jamie, Aubree and Tawnee; a great grandson, Charlie; two extended-family grandchildren, Paul (April) and Courtney (Jeff) and great grandson Will. A German celebration of the life of Ursula Kendall will be held at 12 noon at the Vineyard Valley Club House, 290 Pope Street in St. Helena. Ursula especially loved the friends she made at Vineyard Valley. She enjoyed traveling, entertaining, gardening, homemaking and spending time with her family. Burial will be a private ceremony.
