Virgil Louis Parodi 1930-2013 Virgil Louis Parodi, 82, passed away in peace Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at his home in Vallejo, Calif., alongside the comfort and love of his family and close friends following a brief illness. Virgil was born to Clara (Tovani) and Virgil “Joe” Parodi on Oct. 15, 1930, in Calistoga. He lived and worked in Vallejo for the past 45 years. Virgil grew up in St. Helena, with his family. Virgil graduated from St. Helena High School, where he excelled as an athlete in baseball, basketball, and football. Virgil attended Chico State for a brief period, during which time he was scouted by the Brooklyn Dodgers Professional baseball team. Virgil enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951 and shortly thereafter met his wife, Patricia J. Peddle of Illinois. Virgil attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and was stationed at Mare Island Naval Base in Vallejo, where he retired in 1971. Virgil taught at Solano Community College and Vallejo High School and retired from teaching in 1992. Virgil operated Parodi Pool Service, until his passing in 2013. Virgil, known as “Virg” to his family and friends, was an avid hunter and fisherman. He served as a referee and umpire for baseball, basketball, and football for over 30 years. He also belonged to the Vallejo Bridge Club for many years. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Arlene. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Pat; daughters Suzi Hersom, Patti Parodi, Terri Parodi; sons Thomas and Jack Parodi; grandchildren Nicolas Tambornini, Ryan, Ashley, and Christopher Parodi; beloved aunt Inez Carlenzoli and her family; son-in-law Tracy Hersom; daughters-in-law Julie Parodi and Markell Parodi; and longtime friends Mott and Carol Wilson and Carl Everett. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 12, at Twin Chapels Mortuary, 1100 Tennessee St., Vallejo, with Fr. Brady officiating. A reception will immediately follow. Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made in care of Sutter Solano Hospice in Virgil Parodi’s name to Sutter Care at Home Hospice, 4071 Port Chicago Highway Suite #120, Concord, CA 94520. Arrangements entrusted to the direction and care of Twin Chapels Mortuary, Vallejo (552-6696).
