Dorothy A. Swift

Dorothy Ann Swift was born May 5, 1930, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to the proud parents of the late Thomas Thompson and Margaret Haynes. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Mervin, Willie, and Parmer Thompson, sisters Mildred Trimble, Tommy Lou Thompson, Maxine Pierce and her loving husband of 64 years, Bruce Swift Sr., Dorothy was the third of eight children. Dorothy attended grade school in Tulsa and Sapulpa, Oklahoma until the family relocated to Richmond, CA in 1944. She attended El Cerrito and McClymond’s High School and graduated in May 1948. Dorothy attended Diablo Valley College and graduated with her Associate of Arts degree in 1979. Shortly after graduating high school, Dorothy met and married her life partner Bruce Swift Sr., on February 9, 1950. Bruce and Dorothy celebrated 64 years together and from their union, they were blessed with four children: Sharon Davenport, Vivian Baskerville, Bruce Swift Jr., and William Swift. As a child in Oklahoma, Dorothy was baptized and attended church services at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Sapulpa, OK. When the family relocated to California, Dorothy was a member at Beacon Light Seventh Day Adventist Church in Richmond, CA. Dorothy worked for more than 35 years for the Federal government. She held various positions from Secretary to Contract Specialist as a GS-14. She worked at the Presidio in San Francisco, Oakland Naval Base, Concord Naval Weapons Station, and Mare Island in Vallejo, CA where she retired. Although retired, Dorothy took pleasure in learning and challenging herself. She returned to school and obtained her real- estate license. Dorothy worked as a realtor for 10 years at Dunham Realty and Century 21. Dorothy was a member of Regina Chapter 67, Order of the Eastern Star. Dorothy was full of life and enjoyed having fun, dancing, and listening to music with family and longtime friends. For all of those who knew Dorothy, knew she loved her Heavenly Father and her family. Dorothy’s utmost achievement was co-raising her children. She instilled in her children a good work ethic, honesty, integrity, and tough unconditional love. Dorothy taught her children how to be the best versions of themselves, no matter the circumstances. The values that were given to Dorothy’s children were passed down to her nine grandchildren and are being passed down to her ten great-grandchildren. All of Dorothy’s grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved and supported them and would light up so brightly in their presence. She remembered all her grandchildren’s accomplishments and forgot all their mistakes. A smile so warm and a love so genuine. Dorothy was her grandchildren’s safe place. Dorothy was a virtuous woman, Proverbs 31:10. She worked hard and provided for her family; a woman of strength and honor; she imparted wisdom and gave loving instruction. Dorothy’s children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren called her blessed. On Thursday, June 8, 2023, Dorothy quietly departed this life surrounded by her children. She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughters, Sharon Davenport of Fairfield, CA, and Vivian Baskerville of Vallejo, CA; sons, Bruce Swift Jr. (Stella) of Ogden UT, and William Swift of Vallejo, CA; nine grandchildren, Cato Baskerville III of Vallejo, CA, Danielle Bourgeois of Fairfield, CA, Bruce Swift III (Tyler) of Ogden, UT, Marcus Baskerville of Vallejo, CA, Kawahelani Stambaugh, (Peter) of Oceanside, CA, Alisi Swift of Oceanside, CA, Antoine Davenport, (Artemisé) of Fairfield, CA, Kilistina Robinson, (Nigel), of Oceanside, CA and William Swift Jr. of Los Angeles, CA; and ten great-grandchildren, Kelvion Pruitt of Fairfield, CA, Sampson Stambaugh, (Rosie) of Oceanside, CA, Cyrus Stambaugh of Oceanside, CA, Amani Davenport of Fairfield, CA, Dameon Stambaugh of Oceanside, CA, Ariyon Davenport of Fairfield, CA, Simeon Stambaugh of Oceanside, CA, Antoine Davenport Jr. and Amarion Davenport of Fairfield, CA, and one great great-grandchild, Keanu Stambaugh of Oceanside, CA; one sister, Joan James of Las Vegas, NV; three sisters-in-law, Theresa Thompson of Richmond, CA, Earline Thompson of Georgia, and Sandra Thompson of Victorville CA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dorothy left a legacy of love and will be truly missed. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 27 from 4-8 PM at Twin Chapels Mortuary. Funeral Services will held Wednesday, June 28 at 11 AM at Baynorth Church of Christ, 2100 Pennsylvania Ave., Fairfield. Burial will follow at Rolling Hills Memorial Park , Richmond, CA.
