Florence Mildred Munnell

FLORENCE MILDRED MUNNELL November 9, 1933 – January 22, 2022 Florence Mildred Munnell nee West, a 51 year resident of American Canyon CA, stepped into her heavenly home January 22, 2022. “Well up in years” at age 88, she gladly went to live with her Savior Jesus Christ. Florence was born November 9, 1933, to Clarence and Alice West of Naches Washington. The tenth of twelve children, she was born in a cook shack and grew up on the banks of the Naches River. In 1942 the family moved to Seattle where Florence assisted in her mother’s boarding house. In 1957 Florence married Franklin Marvin Munnell and together they raised four children. A proud Air Force wife, she followed her husband to New Mexico, Washington, Maryland, Japan, Texas, Italy and Georgia. When Frank was posted at Travis AFB , Flo put her foot down and said, “No more moving!” From that time on the family home was in American Canyon. The Munnell family joined Calvary Baptist Church and it became, for Florence, a place of solace and joy. A faithful member, she served in a variety of ways and became a beloved part of that fellowship. She was seen at her kitchen table every morning reading scripture and praying over her open Bible. While the church was the center of her activities, Florence also delighted in playing Pinochle at the Senior Center, tending her roses and traveling. A fierce competitor, for many years she met with a group of ladies for game nights, times of much laughter and deep friendship. After Frank died of ALS in 1986, Florence lived the remainder of her life as a widow, focusing her attention on her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She practiced hospitality, always making room at the table for one more. Her memory is celebrated by her sons: Michael (Kathy), Roger (Melissa), Wade (Peggy); by her grandchildren: Mike, Christopher and Joshua; by her great grandchildren: Morgan, Gavin, Makeilah, Micah, Logan and Oliver and by her brothers: Jerry and Paul. She is predeceased by her parents, husband Frank, daughter Colleen Anderson (Christopher), brothers: Ed, Howard, Harry, Stan, Don, Herb, and Bob and sisters: Louise and Thelma. Viewing will be held Sunday from 2- 6 pm at Twin Chapels Mortuary, 1100 Tennessee St., Vallejo. Funeral service will be held Monday at 11 am at Calvary Baptist Church, 117 Theresa Ave., American Canyon with Pastor Marshall Stevens officiating. Inurnment Will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Calvary Baptist Church.
