Nieves Soria Reyes

Nieves was born on May 5, 1930 in the town of Natividad, province of Pangasinan in the Philippines. She was the third child of nine siblings (4 girls and 5 boys), and the eldest daughter born to Eusebio and Ursula Soria. She graduated from Zaragoza College in Tayug, Pangasinan, Philippines as an elementary school teacher. Right after graduating college, she met the love of her life, Bienvenido, and got married on January 6, 1950. They decided to move to Manila to have a better life where she raised five children (Jennifer, Bienvenido Jr., Audie, Vivian and Anthony). Her dream of coming to the United States was fulfilled in 1978 where she started a new life with her husband. Her daughter Vivian accompanied them at the time. The rest of her children joined after a few years. Nieves was happiest when she had her family all together in the United States. She loved to vacation and travel with her family. As a big sister to Carmen and Naty, she encouraged them to continue their college education in Manila so they, too, could fulfill their dreams. She provided them shelter and support until they finished college. Nieves was devoted to her family. She was especially very dedicated to her children. Her children felt loved and cared for whenever they were in her presence. She was the greatest cook ever! She loved cooking for the whole family. When there were celebrations and special occasions like birthdays, graduations and holidays, she would cook for the family tirelessly. Friends always said she should start her own restaurant. Her barbeque, lumpia, kare-kare and pancit are surely missed by all of us. Nieves was also very generous and kind to people beyond her family. She was always giving and gracious without expecting anything in return. She never got angry or held a grudge. She always smiled and laughed even when she was not feeling well. She was loving and resilient. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was passionate about protecting them, raising them with love and care, and ensuring their health. There are lots of great memories that will never be forgotten. Her unconditional love and irreplaceable memories will remain forever in our hearts. Nieves was taken by our Good Lord on Saturday, December 28, 2019 after suffering from her third stroke. She will truly be missed by her family and those touched by her life and love.
